International talks

  • The department organized talk by Ms. Hotomi Service learning course instructor, SLU, ICU,Japan on 22nd July 2019.
  • Mr. Ajayan Padmanabhan, Deputy director, Forensic   Hospital, U S delivered a talk on  Forensic mental health Services in US.
  •  Talk by Tom Henderson  on Heartfullness training
  • Mr. Sam NInan Koshy in collaboration with Raising our Voice led a training session on preventing human trafficking.
  • The department organized a talk by Dr. Romate John on Counselling skills and techniques by Dr. Romate John, Head Department of Psychology, Central University Karnataka on 21st January 2020.

Workshops

  • The Department organized a  3 days training workshop  in SPSS   by Dr. Justine K James from University college, Thiruvanthapuram.
  • A One day training workshop to equip students as resource persons on prevention of Child abuse was conducted  in January 2020 by Dr. Jaseena Becker
  • The Middents endowment workshop was organized for the P G students of the department by Dr. Manoj Menon and Dr. Rangarajan.
  • The PG students from the department received a training on addiction counseling by Vimukthi mission, Excise department.

National Seminar

  • The Department of Psychology organized  Dr. V K AlexanderNational Seminar on Family Therapy Scope, techniques and challenges on the 6th& 7th of February 2020.

Community Extension Activities

  • The Second P G students joined hands with Flood relief activities at Wayanadu  and conducted various psychological interventions for the affected ones.
  • On the world mental health day awareness on preventing suicide was conducted  in various schools of Ernakulam district by Final year, degree and P G students
  • Second year and final year students conducted awareness class for  Parents of lower primary students in the nearby locality.

The UNI-Y unit of Union Christian College and the Department of Psychology initiated an Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign ‘Bodhanam-2017’ on World Mental Health Day which falls on October 10, by joining hands with Aluva Municipality, YMCA Alangad and Elders Association of the college. The programme began with a rally flagged off by the Principal, followed by a drug abuse awareness talk by Sri. V. T. Job, Civil Officer, Excise Department, Aluva.

The Department of Psychology initiated an extension programme ‘Enabling the enablers’ for members of Sasthra Sahithya Parishath (SSP) with the intention of identifying and helping those in need of mental health services in the community.  The faculty members of the department engage classes on mental health issues to enable the members of the SSP gain awareness regarding the chief mental health concerns of the society and the need to seek appropriate intervention at the earliest.
