Dr. V K Alexander Memorial Reunion Meeting, 2023
The research and post graduate department of Psychology, was established in 1965 as the first college to offer a graduate course in Psychology under the initiative of Dr. V. K. Alexander. Dr. Alexander was a trained clinical psychologist from Princeton University and was the first clinical psychologist in Kerala. He popularised mental health issues and their treatment in Kerala through his practice and writings in vernacular language newspapers and magazines. Known for his thorough knowledge, gentle behaviour and high moral and ethical standards, “Alex Sir”, inspired generations of Psychology students in and out of Union Christian College. The students of Dr. Alexander initiated the annual Dr. V. K. Alexander Memorial Reunion meeting of the alumni of the Department the year after his demise. The annual meeting of the department alumni has continued till date without fail every year since then, even during Covid pandemic years as online meetings. The meeting begins with academic sessions with alumni as resource persons and ends with reminiscence of college times, cultural programs in the get together of alumni, retired teachers and current students and faculty members of the department. Every year the second weekend of February set apart in the calendar of the members for this reunion.
