The Department of Psychology of Union Christian College, Aluva was established in 1965 as
the first independent department in Kerala offering an Under Graduate programme in
Psychology by Dr. V. K. Alexander, the pioneering Clinical Psychologist in Kerala. The first
Post Graduate programme in Psychology under Mahatma Gandhi University was begun in
the department in 1999. The department regained its status as a research centre in its Golden
Jubilee year in 2014. Since then, 10 PhDs have been awarded from the department. At
present the department is endowed with 144 students, 16 research scholars and 7 permanent
faculty members and 1 lab assistant.
